Why I train
-
To age gracefully, and be able to enjoy the physical aspects of life with minimal effort.
-
Maintain my mental health, and physical “independence”.
-
To be useful in a physical capacity to those around me.
How I got started
-
My childhood was filled with activities and athletics from biking to wrestling. That continued into young adulthood, which was filled with lifting weights and other sports, but punctuated by a motorcycle accident.
-
That accident lead to a gradual loss of most of the activities that I now consider essential for health. Barbell lifts caused me pain, so I gave that up a switched to kettlebells. Then kettlebells started causing pain so I gave that up and just did bodyweight exercises. That cycle continued until even walking (and sometimes breathing) was painful. That pain sent me on a search to regain the pain free movement of my youth. I left my career as a chemical engineer to set my focus on studying anatomy to understand why physical therapy and other traditional means had all left me wanting more. I refused to accept that a spinal fusion at 29 was the only way to avoid a life of debilitating back pain. I studied anatomy, took courses and seminars from various therapists, and applied as much as I could to my own body and exercise practice. Along the way I realized that the approach to exercise and training the body that I was learning needed to be shared.
