Basic Equipment for a Home Gym

Below are a few products that would put you well on your way to having a home gym that could fit in carry on luggage, sets up in minutes, and could take you pretty far in your training. These are all resistance bands which allow for similar exercises to be done as with a cable machine. Other exercises and equipment that are useful in a home gym are discussed in this blog here. This blog is focused on the equipment required for resistance training at home. The other blog focuses on minimalist equipment that is versitile and getting the most variety out of that equipment.
If you buy a door anchor and resistance bands you can do almost all of the cable exercises covered elsewhere in my blog in a small space at home. The equipment I linked to is from one of the better brands in the industry, they produce high quality equipment and produce a lot of it in America, though these particular items aren’t.
The bands and the door anchor are all you really need. The handles are optional but a nice addition.
You could buy a very similar set up from Amazon or another retailer for a more affordable price to see how it would work before investing in a higher quality item, which may not ever be needed.
Something like this would likely get you started.
I was able to do a fair amount of training in a college apartment with a similar setup.
With a little creativity you can also use the bands to replace the free weights for leg exercises by standing on the bands and pulling up. Or if home exercise becomes a bigger part of your life there are many adjustable dumbbell sets available. I suggest looking at Facebook marketplace for used ones and getting a higher quality set that will last and also retain more of its resale value.
